  • Mandl School. The Mandl School offers a dental assistant certificate program that can be completed in 45 weeks. Classes are held in an on-site training center. The Mandl School is also in a prime location in New York City, not far from Gershwin Theatre, Times Square and The Museum of Modern Art.
  • Dental Auxiliary Training Center (DATC). There are centers located in Brooklyn and Queens that offer dental assistant training programs that can be completed in four months. Classes are offered in the evening and are small. The programs offered at all DATCs are sponsored by local New York State Dental Societies.

Career Outlook and Salary Expectations

There were approximately 21,750 dental assistants employed in New York City in 2016. As of 2017, there were 22,640 dental assistants working in the greater New York City-Newark-Jersey City area. The state of New York is predicted to see a 23 percent increase in dental assistant jobs by 2026.

Dental assistants in the New York-Newark-Jersey City region make an hourly average of $18.83 and a yearly average of $39,160. The more experienced dental assistants earn as much as $57,350 annually.
