In 2014 there were 2,180 persons employed as dental assistants in Puerto Rico. This number is predicted to grow by 8.3% by 2024.

Requirements

To work has a dental assistant and gain licensure you have to pass the Government of Puerto Rico dental assistant exam. To sit the exam you must have a high school diploma, or equivalent, and have graduated from a dental assisting program that is approved by the Department of Education of Puerto Rico or from a US accredited program.

There also exists the title of Expanded Functions Dental Assistant in Puerto Rico.
